Route 56 is a Lifeskills Programme designed for young people to develop their personal and social skills. The programme runs from 7+ weeks
and can be adapted to the different needs of groups and individual young people. It is run during school time with young people that have
been identified as beneficiaries by the schools and workers involved.
Purpose
- To establish positive working relationships between workers and young people through ice breakers and topic focused group discussions.
- To develop positive working relationships amongst young people through team building exercises and group tasks.
- To build on self confidence, self esteem and self acceptance in groups and individually through projects which reflect self image,
self identity and young people’s culture.
- To raise awareness of the young people’s social, physical and economic surroundings by enabling them to build a (fantasy) young people’s
community through arts and media.
- To raise awareness around issues facing young people such as substance misuse, ASBO’s and Sexual Health - working with other agencies
(Specialist Workers)
- To enable the group to re-engage in school in a more positive way through them recognising the importance of education.
- Young people to explore their creativity and develop skills in various ways through circus workshops, music production and other
enjoyed activities.
- Young people presenting their achieved work to school bodies, parents and other service providers.
- Young people being presented with certificates to recognise their achievements and being taken on an end of project activity to
celebrate their work.
